New Heads of the Department of Public Health
Since September 1, the Department of Public Health is led by Prof. Michael Simon and Prof. Mirko Winkler. The Faculty Assembly thanks the now replaced head Prof. Sabina de Geest for her many years of dedicated service at the DPH, in the Faculty Committee and in the extended Faculty Board.
Michael Simon is Professor and Director at the Institute of Nursing Science (INS) of the Medical Faculty of the University of Basel. He leads the Quality of Care Research Group, which studies adverse events, nurse staffing, and new models of care in acute inpatient, long-term, and outpatient care.
Mirko Winkler is Professor in Urban Public Health at the Medical Faculty. The professorship is hosted at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH), where he heads the Urban Public Health Unit. Winkler’s research and teaching activities focus on the interactions between environmental change, social change, sustainable development and public health.
